“I wondered how it was possible to walk for an hour through the woods and see nothing of note. I, who cannot see, find hundreds of things: the delicate symmetry of a leaf, the smooth skin of a silver birch, the rough shaggy bark of a pine. I, who am blind, can give one hint to those who see: Use your eyes as if tomorrow you will have been stricken blind. Hear the music of voices, the songs of birds, the mighty strains of an orchestra as if you would be stricken deaf tomorrow. Touch each object as if tomorrow your tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of flowers, taste and relish each morsel, as if tomorrow you could never taste or smell again. Make the most of every sense. Glory in all the facets and pleasures and beauty which the world reveals to you.” -Helen Keller

very nice post. i am one of the lucky ones; i lost my vision about ten years ago for 24 hours. the doctors later said, ‘we don’t know why this happened, but usually when you lose your vision, you do not get it back.’
believe me, i am one who embraces the gift of vision every single day of my life!
thank you for reminding others what a precious gift we have, and how we often forget to be grateful for that gift!

Thank you! This is a good post to share as the world needs a reminder not to be so blind to their surroundings. I’m not just talking about nature here. They really need to open their eyes to all the possibilities out there! 🙂

A nice excerpt from one of my favorite things that Helen Keller wrote–“Three Days to See.” The entire article is well-worth the read! (And can be found here — http://www.afb.org/section.aspx?FolderID=1&SectionID=1&TopicID=481&SubTopicID=17&DocumentID=1215). Thanks for sharing, Kristin, and Happy New Years to you and yours!
Kindest regards,
John
