Never give up on what? Surely the admonition to never give up cannot be applied across the board to all life situations. Surely the reference to god is not universal either as there is no more evidence of the existence of such being than there is for existence of a tooth fairy.
There is no comma or period when it comes to the unfolding of the universe. Change is the only constant .
Once we awaken and learn how to be with what is we may set our sights on a dream. Over the course of time we may find the dream morphs into something else, or fades away, or needs replacement.
Our failures can become stepping stones for success but we have to be willing to take the next step and the next step may not be always be staying the course. For, without doubt, there will be times in our life when letting go and setting off in a new direction is the healthier course of action to take.
I’d like to share this food for thought with you.
“Belief…is the insistence that the truth is what one would ‘lief’ or (will or) wish to be… Belief is fervent hope, and thus a cover-up for doubt and uncertainty.
Faith is an unreserved opening of the mind to the truth, whatever it may turn out to be. Faith has no preconceptions; it is a plunge into the unknown.
Belief clings, but faith let’s go…faith is the essential virtue of science, and likewise of any religion that is not self-deception. If we cling to belief in God, we cannot likewise have faith, since faith is not clinging but letting go.” — Alan Watts
Hi Alan. I respect that you politely disagree. We can agree on some things. First, I totally agree that the belief in God is not universal. I have worked with and have respected many people who believe in a higher power other than God and people who believe in no higher power at all. All of us in this diverse world are unique in our own special way. Another point that I agree with is this..”Never give up on what?” Although it is meant to inspire (Don’t give up on yourself when times are tough) there are times when it may be best to give up on something for the good of another thing. An example might be when someone is in an abusive relationship. It might be best to give up on that relationship. The choice might be to give up on the abusive relationship or give up on self and personal safety. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend.
