What Makes a Highly Productive Manager?

April 24, 2012 Kristin 12 Comments

“Highly productive managers have the confidence and respect of their workers and, because of their skills in human relationships, receive greater cooperation and productivity from their workers.  Highly motivated workers have greater freedom, more respect and consideration, greater participation in decision-making, and are part of an enthusiastic and cooperative team.”        -Frank Goble, author of The Third Force: The Psychology of Abraham Maslow

You are only as good as your people.

Treat your employees well, and they will not want to let you down.  Remember, people thrive in a positive environment.  Let them know that you believe in them.  Get to know your workers, and make them feel valued.  Thank their significant other; whether you know it or not, they, too, are a big part of your team.  Treat your employees as you wish to be treated.

“It is not the confident manager that leads with power over; it is the confident manager that motivates, inspires, praises, and instructs.”                                             -Kristin Barton Cuthriell, M.Ed., MSW, LCSW

I’ve had good and bad. I definitely worked more and better under the good leader.

Hmmm. Deming’s red bead experiment says the people are only as good as the ‘system’. 😀

People are only as good as ‘the system.’ Leaders need to effectively motivate their workers, because their company will only be as good as their employees. Basically, treat your employees well and they will perform. I do think it is important to tell your employees that they are the reason for the company’s success.

It’s true! It requires peronal security and confidence to motivate, inspire and empower others to help them grow to their maximum potential. True powerful people don’t use their power to crash others. They inspire instead—to build others.

I remember in the movie Fearless, Jet Lee says, “Only the WEAK need to prove themsselves in through POWER.”

Thanks for a great post! 🙂

A former peer of mine was recently promoted to become my manager. The relationship is a bit awkward, but I can see that if he followed this advice he could become a great manager.

Thanks for your comments. In friendship, the balance of power is equal. It is not uncommon for your situation to feel awkward. The balance has changed; at work at least. Hopefully your friend will not abuse the power and things will work well.
