Self-love

Learning to love ourselves enables us to better love others.  Without self-love we go around projecting all of our own self-contempt (harsh judgments, criticisms…) onto everyone else.  If we love ourselves, we spread love.  If we are full of self-contempt, we spread criticism, negativity, and judgments.  True self-love is rooted in security.  Narcissistic love is rooted in deep feelings of inadequacy.  Individuals who are filled with true self-love are able to spread genuine love to others.

Belittling others tells the world just how inadequate and powerless you feel.  It says nothing about the person that you belittle.

This is a wonderful post from Kristin at Let Life In Practices. As synchronicity would have it, I have spent a lot of time praying and meditating about love and the meaning of love lately. Kristin’s post describes the kind of love that is defined best in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7:

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in truth.
It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres.
    Love never fails.

In order to love others in this way, we must first love ourselves. Kristin’s post is right on point with this unavoidable Truth.
    Enjoy the read!
